Julian Sands, the British actor best known for his roles in the films “A Room with a View” (1985), “Warlock” (1989), and “Arachnophobia” (1990), was found dead in California on Tuesday. He was 65.
Sands’ body was discovered by hikers in the Mount Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains. The cause of death has not been released, but authorities do not suspect foul play.
Sands was born in Otley, West Yorkshire, England, in 1958. He began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in films such as “The Killing Fields” (1984) and “Gothic” (1986). He achieved international fame with his role as George Emerson in “A Room with a View,” which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Sands went on to star in a number of other successful films, including “Warlock,” “Arachnophobia,” “Naked Lunch” (1991), and “Boxing Helena” (1993). He also appeared in a number of television series, including “24” (2006), “Smallville” (2009-2010), and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (2011).
Sands was a versatile actor who was known for his dark and brooding intensity. He was also a talented musician and played the guitar and piano.
He is survived by his wife, Evgenia Citkowitz, and their three children.
